Word fucking

types

Well it is 2017 and whether we like it or not, it seems that we have evolved in to a “typing and reading” species. Long gone are the days when face to face or even voice to phone is used to communicate anything.  So I have some opinions on this new “typing culture” we are living in.  I have thought a lot about this; bear with me while I rant.

First of all, I love to write. When I was a kid one of my teachers actually signed my yearbook “looking forward to seeing your name in print someday”.  That dream isn’t dead, someday my “name” may be in print, but for now my writing consists of mainly end of shift and disciplinary reports, and a random blog here and there.  This being said, what are the positive and negatives of being a “typing culture”.

Typing instead of speaking gives us the advantage to organize our thoughts in to an appropriate message. Proof reading gives us the advantage of taking out spelling or grammatical errors, or just plain mean shit. This is why I still get surprised when I receive mean messages. If you were given the opportunity to change your words, but you don’t, and it is mean, then it is intentional.  People sometimes spout off at the mouth when they are aggravated.  Once the words are out of the mouth, you can’t take them back. The only proof reading opportunity that you are afforded is to think first. “Please be sure brain is engaged before using mouth.” Oftentimes, people say way worse things via typing than in person as well.

So this being said, if someone is being mean to you via “typing” who’s fault is it? Is it mine for reading it or yours for sending it? Do you forgive this or not? Do you give the excuse that they were upset and didn’t mean it? Don’t we do that when people use their words to hurt us? Is the message different if it was delivered differently?

In my experience, I have found that one of the most hurtful things in the human body is the tongue. It is sharp as a sword, and words cut deep.  Especially when you have an obnoxious memory, that never lets you forget a single.thing.

Use your words for good, uplift people, be kind..always.
